OVERVIEW

Rogaine contains minoxodil, the first treatment approved by the FDA to treat hair loss. It is applied topically, twice a day, and comes in liquid or foam forms. In clinical testing, Rogaine grew hair in 85% of patients who used the product for at least 4 months.

HOW IT WORKS

In pattern baldness, a combination of hormones, heredity, and age shorten a hair’s growing cycle, and cause the hair follicle to shrink or minituarize. Eventually, the active growth phase (anagen) becomes shorter, and the resting phase (telogen) becomes longer. Rogaine has been observed in clinical trials to reverse this process. By enlarging miniaturized follicles, the anagen phase (growth) becomes longer, allowing the hair to become thicker and longer.

ROGAINE FOAM OR ROGAINE SOLUTION?

Rogaine Foam and Rogain Solution both contain 5% minoxodil, the difference is how it is applied. The foam is gently massaged into the scalp, whereas the topical solution is applied with a dropper onto the hairloss area.

SIDE EFFECTS

Some people experience redness, or dry, itchy scalps.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK

Men should expect to see results in 4 months, but success depends on proper application and dosage. If you do not see results after 4 months, it is safe to assume it does not work for you.
